Kangaroo Valley – Day 3
It turns out that Roosters don’t just crow at dawn. Some can crow pretty much all night. Not that the kids needed a rooster to wake them up.
Sophie was off to get eggs first thing, throwing a coat on and gum boots on, and grabbing her egg collecting basket. While still wearing her pajamas.
After breakfast, a horse appeared out of the mist!
Everyone was keen to say good morning.
It’s pretty nice having a horse just over your back fence.
Especially one that listens to everything you say, while looking wistfully at a box of alpaca/goat feed that you are holding in your hand. Poor chap never did get any of that food.
But he didn’t give up hope.
The two of them were thick as thieves. Sophie had a wonderful converstaion about philosophy and dental hygiene. More of a monologue really:
Every world is different. Every person is different. The world works differently.
You live on a farm. But we don’t really live here. So we’re just on a holiday here. One more sleep until we go.
And we sometimes see you down over there (pointing down to the bottom of the field). You’ve got not tiny teeth. You’ve got this big teeth (holding fingers about 2 inches apart). Because you’re a really big pony, don’t you think?
At this point the horse yawns, and a look of concern appears on Sophie’s face. Is she worried that she is losing the interest of her audience. Not really.
You don’t have very clean teeth, do you?
Sophie preparing for the Kangaroo Valley ladies lawn bowls semi-finals
Even Toby found a pony to feed, and offered him pieces of apple. From a safe distance.
Evening in Kangaroo valley. It’s so quiet and peaceful. Except inside the cottage, where there are serious discussions going on about whether there is still time to check if the chooks have laid any more eggs.

Kangaroo Valley – Day 2
Morning at the cottage. Sophie was straight up and went off by herself to see if there were any fresh eggs. She met Frank, the farmer who owns the farm, and returned with two fresh eggs. And they were still warm!
Morning view to the garden.
View from the veranda over the fields.
Toby having a potter in the garden.
After we had had our breakfast, the alpacas came up from the fields to see what was going on.
Sophie got the alpaca food, but was a bit nervous about feeding them. Toby decided that although he wouldn’t eat his toast at breakfast, it might be worth trying the alpaca food.
The alpacas had a long fringe. But Sophie said that we couldn’t cut it because they were too furry.
Sophie holding the alpaca food, Toby pottering and two alpacas looking on hopefully.
Mum had taken care of all the food, Toby’s medicines, clothes, games toilitries and everything. Dad was in charge of the cameras. For some reason Dad decided he didn’t need to bring the chargers for the digital cameras. Of course this meant that both the batteries for his big SLR went flat almost immediately, leaving only the little Canon point-and-shoot.
Cuddles with Dad.
In the afternoon another visitor dropped by to say hello – Laska, one of the farm pets. Sophie and Laska became instant friends.
A tired Sophie at the end of the day.

Kangaroo Valley – Day 1
First stop was at a cafe called Bite Me! in Mittegong, where we had awesome burgers. Toby was allowed to sit in a grown up chair, and was pretty pleased with himself. However it was soon reaslised that a high chair is far preferable for restraining errant young one-and-a-half year olds.
After a couple of hours driving, we got there. This is the cottage Mum had booked for us.
View from the garden.
Behind the cottage was a hen house.
Sophie went to look for eggs straight away,
While Toby looked on.
Sophie became very keen on looking for fresh eggs – so key in fact that she had to be discouraged from looking too often.
No Sophie, you have to wait at least 10 minutes before you can look again.
OK, I’ll wait 11 minutes.
Walking down the drive were more animals:
Sophie, Mum and Toby were soon feeding the goats. Who weren’t at all shy, and wouldn’t have minded if Sophie had fed them every 10 minutes.
This was Mr. Bossy goat, who kept pusing the other goats out of the way. Sophie gave him quite a lecture. Something to chew on.
There were two alpacas too. They were very fluffy and shy.
Sophie thought that their fringes werea bit too long.
The cottage even came with a small container of “goat and alpaca food”.
It turns that even a shy alpaca is willing to stick its neck out for a bit of food!
Next to the house was a lovely flat-ish back yard, with a playground. Sophie found a large wooden chest under the cubby house, which was full of ball-games, to Toby’s delight. He tried his hand (and feet) at tennis, bowls, soccer, badminton, rugby and cricket. They were all his favourite.
View from the play area towards the house.
View from the play area towards kangaroo valley.
Everyone agreed that Mum had found quite a good spot for a little holiday.

Thank you so much for lovingly restoring this beautiful homestead and opening it up for people to enjoy.
Four generations of our family enjoyed 3 nights of rest and relaxation (even with a 2 yr old)!
Angus loved (over) feeding the goats, doing laps of the house. Hopefully one day we can bring all the grandchildren to share the fun.
We really appreciated the simple style and comfort of the house which was lovely for the adults and safe for the little one. Thank you so much for the little kiddy touches like the ball and table and chairs – they made Angus’s mum feel very welcome and at ease.

Thank you for sharing this little slice of heaven with us. We’ve had a wonderful week here, the landscape is spectacular and the Homestead is very comfortable. You’ve done a great job of restoring it. Our toddler, Ruby just loved all the animals, especially the alpacas and dear little Chloe the Terrier. Bungy the pony was also a huge hit – she has named her new rocking horse after him.

“We had a lovely, relaxing time at Minimibah Cottages. We really enjoyed the beautiful surroundings and the peace and quiet. The cottage had everything we could possibly need and we could even collect fresh eggs from the chook pen each morning. Frank and Cathy were wonderful hosts and we hope to return to Minimbah Cottages again soon.”
Carolyn, February 2007
“Great view, great for a group. Good location. Friendly hosts. Chloe the dog was a hit. Would go back again anytime. ”
Sheridan, June 2008
“Staying at Minimbah Farm was such a treat. Our cottage was perched on a hill overlooking the pastures–you couldn’t find a more idyllic spot. And our toddler son had so much fun feeding the goats and alpacas, and trying to chase the chickens. All weekend he kept saying, I’m happy!”

Myles at Minimbah …
November 30th, 2009
In November 2010 a crew of 10 people from Starchild Productions filmed scenes for the tv show ”Myles Barlow Review” starring Phil Lloyd and featured on ABC TV.
In this particular episode Myles played the part of a business man who moves out of the the big smoke for a ‘tree change’ in the deep south of Tasmania, but after a while, he eventually turns ferrell. (Are they trying to tell us something?)
The scenes shot at Minimbah involved some girl backpackers who stumble upon the ‘castaway’ Myles in the wild bush and get more than they bargained for.

This episode will go to air in August 2010.
Who knows what you’ll find at Minimbah? … A fun day had by all!
